On this day in 1620, the Mayflower set sail from Plymouth, England, carrying a small band of Pilgrims seeking religious freedom in the New World. Their journey across the Atlantic was treacherous, with storms and sickness threatening their survival. Yet, their faith in God’s providence gave them courage to endure.
The Pilgrims’ story is captured in William Bradford’s
Of Plymouth Plantation, a firsthand account of their trials, faith, and perseverance. Bradford wrote, “Thus out of small beginnings greater things have been produced.” Their commitment to worship freely would influence the shaping of America’s religious and cultural foundations.
On this day, we remember that their voyage was more than a search for a new land—it was a bold step toward building a community where faith could flourish without fear.
